Harrison Lawrence family correspondence, 1870-1876.

Letters written to Harrison and Cintha [Cynthia?] Lawrence of Selma, Illinois. Their niece, Martha Lawrence, writes from San Francisco of what she saw during her train ride to California, and includes observations about the Indians and their living conditions and mention of exclusionist sentiments toward the Chinese. J. Bowers writes from Arvada, Colorado and describes farming, cattle raising, the climate, and dairy product prices. Sallie Bowers writes of how happy she is as a result of her move to Arvada and describes the climate, the local crops, and a Methodist meeting she attended. John J. Smith's letter from Georgetown, Colorado includes descriptions of the local terrain and of a fistfight he was involved in.
